On 25th March, 1915, the 1st Liverpool (Kings) battalion of 6 Brigade, 2nd Division moved into the trenches at Cuinchy, near La Bassée in France where they remained until relieved on 29th March. Ernest Sutton was killed on 25th March and he may have been the machine-gunner, referred to by the battalion diary, who was killed by shrapnel on the railway embankment there. |
